Broad Hollow
Broad Hollow at Old Westbury. A mansion from the Great Gatsby Era. |
The 600 acre estate of Horseman & Singer Sewing Machine heir F. Ambrose Clark, was one of the most magnificent properties in Old Westbury. In the 1920's the Duke Of Windsor was entertained there and a Ballroom was constructed to the right end of the house for the occasion.
The Clark family after the death of Frederick Ambrose Clark sold the estate to New York State in the late 1960's, to be converted to the State University of New York at Old Westbury. While repairing the roof of the 40 room mansion, a fire started which destroyed the entire house.
