A selection of mostly period postcards showing the summer cottage of the Cornelius Vanderbilt family, " The Breakers" at Newport. The Breakers is the largest "Cottage" in Newport and one of the largest mansions in America. It epitomizes the grandeur and splendor of America's " Gilded Age" The Breakers is the number one tourist attraction in Rhode Island and is now open to the public. It and many other gilded age houses of Newport are owned and operated by the Preservation Society of Newport County. Click Newport Mansions for more information.
